Thanks very much for the replies. I suppose that now is a good time to admit that I mow in 2-high, which is about 5.5mph. I was impressed that the mower was able to cut quite well at that speed except for the tire tracks. I believe that I need to slow down and mow more often, but it's hard to bring myself to add 1.5 hours to my mowing time (5 acres). I guess I should have bought a smaller place.

I am looking for a used loader for a international 234. I know this is a long shot since this does not seem to be a very common tractor, but I am unwilling to spend $3000+ for a new one. If I can't find a used one, does anyone have experience "modifying" a loader to fit a different model? Also, I have seen plans to make your own loader; has anyone done this successfully?

I am looking for the most painless way to convert a 5 acre field of ragweed and misc. other weeds into turf. My plan is as follows: mow down weeds, a week later apply roundup to whole lot. 4 weeks later a local farmer will disk it well. then I will remove rocks. then I will plant grass using a seeder a local implement company has that resembles a grain drill, only it's for grass. I have a friend that has used the seeder in question and I am happy with the results he got. two questions: do you see any problem with my plan (seeding to occur in september - in Ohio)? secondly, what's the best way to remove rocks? I fear hand picking 5 acres will take me a month.

A dealer has a JD 750, 4WD, 820 hours, with loader for $6800. It was a trade from a landscape contractor. The paint's faded and there are a couple dings, but the dealer believes it's mechanically fine. The previous owner did say there's been a small hydro leak at the power steering for a while, but it's not really a problem. What do you all think of the price? Also, I don't see many posts for the 750- did they not sell many of them? Was there some problem with them that made them unpopular? Thanks, I really appreciate the advice of this board.

I am looking at some used tractors and need to know if I should only look at units with ag tires. I have 5 acres to mow (I will probably plant tall fescue) - but I am not trying to produce golfcoarse quality turf. I also need to plow snow, grade a 200' gravel driveway, and on occasion pull a 2-bottom plow and small disk (once a year for a garden). Can I pull the plow with turf tires? If not, would adding chains make it work? My current top choice is a kubota L275, 4WD, turf tires. Thanks,brian

I am looking at a ford 1510, 4WD, turf tires. Will this unit handle a 6' mower/bush hog, a 2 bottom plow, and a small disk? Please help choose from the following options: Kubota L275, 4WD, power steer, 2000 hrs, old used 5' mower (3pt mount), $7250. Ford 1510, 4WD, power steer, no implements, $6900. International 234, 4WD, meter says 760 hrs, if true they were hard hours, $3150. I have 5 acres to mow/bush hog, snow to plow, and a garden to take care of. My father-in-law has a 2 bottom plow and disk for his 8N that I can borrow, so I want to be able to use those. I was told the international is 18hp (is this true?), so would it handle those implements. I know conventional wisdom says buy the most size/Hp that I can afford, but if the international would do the job, I hate to throw $4000 away. The other issue is dependability. I don't want to spend much time/money keeping a tractor running. I don't have an exact age for any of these machines, but I would guess the international is a bit older than the others.

Thanks for the input Joe. New is not even worth twice as much to me. If I can find a deal like the one you got, I'll buy it in a heartbeat. I think you're right, I need to look to private sales.
